NATIONAL AWARD FOR WOMEN’S DEVELOPMENT THROUGH APPLICATION OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY - 2006
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Honble President of India conferred NATIONAL AWARD FOR WOMEN’S DEVELOPMENT THROUGH APPLICATION OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY for the year 2006 to Dr. Maninder Jeet Kaur of the Himalayan Research Group, Shimla for her pioneering work in making technology accessible to the women of the remote areas of the Himalayan region. This award was presented on Technology Day i.e. 11th May 2007 at New Delhi in an impressive function organised at the Ashoka Hotel. Dr. Maninder is the first recipient of this prestigious award in the sate of Himachal Pradesh. Dr. Maninder has worked in the field of medicinal plants cultivation, mushroom cultivation and fodder management. The concerted efforts made through skill training, field demonstration, constant technical support and motivation has resulted in large scale acceptability of technology packages. The mainstay of her work has been meticulous planning of trials, innovative and methodical approach in implementation. The replicability of the model developed has brought miracles in improving the quality of life of rural women especially of women belonging to Himachal Pradesh. These interventions have resulted in sustainable change in the lives of underprivileged rural women of the state.
